Goldman Sachs: "The US budget is out of control"
Isn't the GOP supposed to be the party of small goverment? Reining in spending, fiscal discipline, that sort of thing?
Perhaps if they weren't so inclined to help certain folks out at the expense of others, then they could start to grab hold of the "solvency issue".
Between you and me, I have always been really suspect as soon as people start carping on about "corporate cronyism" and the like - it usually sets off my liberal rant filter and I make my excuses. But I'm starting to think there's something to the idea that big business have really got a hold on this administration to a degree that we haven't seen before, and it's not a good thing.
You know, it's hard to believe that absolutely no one posted a Comment here. Where's Del when you need him?

Luke,
You're probably right in your assesment however, it's also a fact that there are Special Interest Groups that own and dictate to the Democratic Leadership what they want or don't want and nevermind if it's in the best interest of The People or The Country.
Look at what Special Interest Groups and the Democratic Legislature and Governor Gumby did here in California. Thanks to them THEY created a $38 Billion Dollar Deficit. Davis, an incompetent buffoon, completely mishandled the power crisis a few years ago and yes, I know, some would say well that's Bush and associates fault BUT, Davis didn't act. Furthermore he negotiated contracts that We are now stuck with and are paying higher bills. Please note that Davis hired several "consultants" for nice pay of $10K each per month and those same "consultants" that he hired were also closely involved with the very energy companies they were negotiating with.
See a problem there?
Since 1999, Gov. Gumby's time, the state of CA. saw an increase in population of 15%, an increase of state revenue (taxes & fees) at around 35%, and an increase in spending at around 45%. In other words they, the Democratic Legislature and Davis were spending more money (Taxpayer money) than they were bringing in.
Now it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out this one and anybody with just a pinch of common sense can also figure this one out. YOU CANNOT SPEND MORE MONEY THAN YOUR BRINGING IN!!
What was the Democratic Legislature's and Davis' solution to THEIR mess? Why raise our taxes, place the burden of their mismanagment on the backs of the People.
Who, inspite of all the admonishments, accusations, and attacks refused to allow that to happen. Who dug their heels in, stood their ground and absolutely refused to give in to raising taxes? The Republican Legislature!!
While some on the Democratic side continue their claims that it was a Right Wing Conspiracy to grab power or a Republican takeover I wholeheartedly disagree with their claims. The Recall petition was signed by Republican, Democrats, Independents, Green Party, and a majority of the Latino and Black communities.
The Recall election occurred and, again, the majority of The People, people from the Republican, Democrat, Independent, Libertarian, Green Partys, and majority of the minority communities voted to Recall Davis and to elect Schwarzenegger as Governor. That's the reality of it all.
I could go on on this subject but, hope to make the point that both sides Republican or Democrat are guilty of waste, spending sprees, and increasing of taxes. Except, of course, the recent cut in taxes that Bush, A Republican, pushed through.
For me I see where we seem to have gone full circle and are, again, at the point of "Taxation Without Representation."
