Time: Saddam says no WMD

I will continue posting today and hope that TypePad can sort out my design issues ASAP.

From the article in today's edition of Time, we get the following snippets of conversation from the initial interrogation of Saddam:

Saddam was also asked whether Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction. “No, of course not,” he replied, according to the official, “the U.S. dreamed them up itself to have a reason to go to war with us.” The interrogator continued along this line, said the official, asking: “if you had no weapons of mass destruction then why not let the U.N. inspectors into your facilities?” Saddam’s reply: “We didn’t want them to go into the presidential areas and intrude on our privacy.”

Admiteddly, the article seems to give the impression that Saddam isn't exactly forthcoming with his information, nor is he filling the interrogators with confidence in his ability to tell the truth. Hopefully he will provide some useful information, especially regarding the insurgents fighting in his name.

Of course he says he has no WMD. He also told his people they won the first Gulf War. I never worried about Saddam attacking the U.S. directly - more his ability to sell chem and bio weapons to those fun groups like Al Qaeda, Islamic Jihad and others.

Didn't he also have his Information Minister stating that the US was being soundly defeated in the deserts of Iraq. Hello, damn straight he's
going to deny everything, no involvement, no knowledge of, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised to read somewhere that some psychologogist is going to come up with some more psycho-babble saying it wasn't his fault. It was the fault of his kindergarten teacher, or his mum or dad, or older brother or some other person when he was a little boy.....

Oh it was his uncle. And the fact that he never had a father. C'mon he's a great guy. I think he should be allowed to live and that once an hour for the rest of his life, one of his victims family members should be allowed to hurl a rock at his head. How many days is 400,000 hours? Every time he lies he should get an electric shock on his n-tz. "We won the war in '91! Ouch that hurts. I never killed anyone who didn't really deserve....hey stop it. We never had WMD OOUUUUUCCCCH! I never killed my daughters husbands......HEY! that smarts you know" How charming does this snake have to be to lure back his two son-in-laws from Jordan just to kill them? But the Dems/libs thought he should stay in power and keep doing these things.

Who knows if Iraq had WDM. Scott Ritter's claim before the war started, that any chemical weapons that he might have (and let's not forget who sold them) would have passed their sell by date years ago. Maybe he did have them, but it still seems crazy that he didn't use them when Iraq was invaded. Did he really think that he would be in any more trouble than he is in now?

And Saddam didn't have the monopoly on lies. Anyone remember Jessica Lynch?

Or for that matter the French, the Germans, and the Russians? Obviously we aren't squeeky clean but it wasn't us who was selling him weapons and other things when sanctions were put in place by the U.N.

Exactly Chrish.

As for Chris, I don't think the Jessica Lynch exaggeration is exactly on the same scale as Saddam's lies. Call me crazy. As for selling arms to Iraq (and Iran) during the 80's yes we did and it was wrong. But since this forum is about GWB and his exploits, are you saying he sold the arms now? Why don't you just blame him for the Ice Age and Hitler too?

Again, please, I'm requesting the links to the information about "the French, the Germans, and the Russians.....selling (Saddam) weapons and other things when sanctions were put in place by the U.N."

Cheers

Jim,

Actually I was thinking more along the lines of the Fall of the Roman Empire.... :o)
Nope, not at all am I saying GWB was selling weapons to Iraq. That's ridiculous he wasn't even in Office. Clinton was in office then, wasn't he? I think the point here is that everybody was selling weapons to that beast not just us. I agree it was wrong for us to be engaging in that activity and still don't understand why we have to be. Seems the more important things we should be selling are those things that would help a country to stand on its own two feet and not with a weapon in its hands.

And sorry {no name},

It wasn't just Germany, France, and Russia who were selling weapons to Iraq actually it was everybody who was in on it. Here's the link showing the who's who list. Still working on the actual dates as to whether or not it was after the sanctions. My bad for not getting the clarification of that before posting.:

{No Name},

Here are some links that should help dispel the notion that France, Germany, and Russia weren't selling weapons to Iraq after the sanctions were put in place.

Conidering the French have also been selling weapons to China and with discovery
of French made weapons caches in Iraq that were made after 2001.

This link also shows where Clinton had two of our aircraft carriers sent to the Gulf stating that "Saddam must comply unconditionally with the will of the international community."

Again the French criticized the President.

Here President Clinton even spoke of Saddam's WMD development. Thought I would also throw this one in.
"U.S. officials insist that Saddam is to blame for the country's misery. The Clinton administration has repeatedly said it would support ending sanctions if Saddam would stop all biological, chemical and nuclear weapons programs and allow U.N. inspectors free rein in examining Iraq's facilities.

Both President-elect George W. Bush and Vice President-elect Dick Cheney have said they believe sanctions have been an appropriate response to Saddam."

I know that liberals are lousy gamblers!

Instead of taking their loses and minimizing them - they continue to come up to the poker table and blow anything left that they may have...

Case in point…

Before the war started – Liberals were yelling we were going to meet a formidable enemy.

EHHH… WRONG! It could not have been any easier!

The Iraqi people will see us as ‘occupiers’ not liberators.

EHHH… WRONG! The majority of Iraqis’ see us as the ones that freed them from Saddam. The terrorism that is being experienced today is heavily coming from the outside. There is more and more evidence that Iraqis’ are glad that we are there and are helping us. The recent wins are a testament to this very fact!

LIBERALS YELLED – it’s not fair not to include the international community in Iraq after the fact. First – what do you mean international – Oh you meant France and Germany.

EHHH… heard the latest – yep both France and Germany are playing ‘kissy-face’ and Bush will get what he wants before letting them in on the game. Our President (like I predicted in earlier posts) is the master card player!

LIBERALS YELLED where is Saddam? Like WMD’s - we are failing.

EHHH… Saddam’s caught – the Iraqis’ are now helping us more and more.

WMD’s? Be careful for what you wish for my friendly Liberals…

If a person can hide in a hole for the length of time Saddam did – how easily would it be to hide a vial of poison?

Trust me liberals – you’re running out of chips though I certainly understand your position – you haven’t got much more to yell about… them chips are running mighty low.

My advice – step away from the table and take a breather. This senseless attitude will get you no-where.
